Kindergarten Literacy Sponsorship Program

We met our sponsorship goal for this year and the first book from this program will be delivered to the students in November. Thank you to all of the businesses and individuals who supported this pilot program!

Thanks to all of our sponsors!
To sponsor a child, please write a check to Zachary Rotary Club in the amount of $50 and mail to the address below, drop off to Bret Funk at InfinIT Technology Group or Sara Horn of Zachary Travel, or you can pay your sponsorship by credit card by using the donation button below. A sponsorship by credit card will cost $52 to offset the credit card fees, as we intend each sponsored child to have an equal amount of funding for their books.

The Rotary Club of Zachary has partnered with Northwestern Elementary to provide books to Kindergarten students identified by the school system as having little to no access to books at their homes.

We are currently seeking sponsorships of $50/student, which will provide one book per month during the school year, as well as a "summer reading library” for the students to take home at the end of the year. Books will be chosen by the Literacy Committee in conjunction with one or more teachers from Northwestern Elementary, so that a wide variety of age appropriate and engaging titles can be selected. This program is funded solely by sponsorships, and 100% of the sponsorship money will go to the implementation of this program.

We all understand the benefits that literacy and a love of reading can bring. A sponsorship will provide between 10-15 books, and for children with little access to books at home, that might make a significant difference. Based on the success of this pilot program, we hope to explore the possibility of expanding this program both “upward” to higher grades in Zachary as well as “outward” to Kindergartens in some of our neighboring communities which may have a greater need for a program such as this.

If this is a program you would like to support we would greatly appreciate your sponsorship!

Terry Gomez has been elected president of the Rotary Club of Zachary.  The swearing in ceremony took place on June 21, at The Pointe at Americana. Terry was officially sworn in by Mayor David Amrhein,  and will serve as president for the 2018-2019 year.  The installation banquet was a western theme, and members of the Rotary Club were served a delicious barbeque in honor of the new “Rotary Sheriff” in town.

In his capacity as president of the Rotary Club of Zachary, Terry will lead the membership group of professionals who meet weekly for programs, service and networking.  “Rotary is about “Service above Self”, and I am excited to be this year’s president and look forward to our many service projects,” says Terry Gomez.
